The mission of Respite Care of San Antonio is to protect, love, build trust, and nurture growth of children with special needs and complex medical conditions while strengthening the families who care for them.
Tommy first joined Respite Care for their Weekend Out program that supports parents by caring for children with disabilities. Tommy’s parents experienced a familiar anxiety that many families caring for children with special needs and complex medical conditions often feel- the desired supportive care for their child, but even positive change could be overwhelming. During an initial tour, the Respite Care teachers shared her knowledge and experience, helping the family ease into scheduling their son in the Community Respite Programs.
After just a few Saturdays at the Weekend Out program, Tommy found his place among the team who welcomed him with the kind of care that helps children thrive. Just as importantly, his parents discovered what every family finds at Respite Care: a community that understands their journey. Respite Care’s team was able to provide them with grace, compassion, and care. When anxiety runs high, the respite programs offer more than just high-quality childcare—they create a space where both children and parents can take a breath. A hug becomes not just a source of comfort, but also a sign of understanding. Grace is not only given but shared among those who truly empathize.
That holiday season, Tommy and his family found something invaluable: the deep relief of knowing they are not walking this path alone.
